7 Tips to Make Holiday Travel with Toys Easier
1. Take the batteries out.
Right now. If you are going to pack a toy, take the batteries out.
If your toy turns on during your travels, your secret identity as a sex goddess is blown. A buzzing bag could also trigger a security response, and cause your flight to be delayed. Aside from that minor inconvenience, if a toy is left running for a long time (especially at low speed) the motor can quickly burn out.
Take the batteries out whenever you are not using your toy, and leave them out, even after you arrive at your holiday destination. Simply moving your bag across the room can shift the contents and accidentally set things a buzzing.
Bring an extra set of batteries with you too, just in case. It's like insurance; you may never need them, but if you do, you'll be so glad you thought ahead.
2. Place your toys inside clear zip-lock plastic bags for travel.
This way, if someone goes through your travel bag, they will not actually be directly handling your toys. There is no rule or law against flying with sex toys in the US, and TSA should never question or harass you about these items. But there is always a chance that your bag will be searched, so take the precaution of bagging those little treats.
Pro tip: When flying, consider bagging your delicates and lingerie for the same reason.
3. When discretion, space, and bag weight are important choose compact toys.
This might be the time to leave your favorite Jackrabbit at home, and pack a discreet waterproof Breeze Bullet instead.
You may also want to consider small, rechargeable toys like Nea by Lelo or the WE Vibe, instead. Both are colorful, and powerful, but they're also discreet, and not obviously sex toys.
4. Pick multi-faceted toys.
We love the La Curve and the Mini Magic One Touch with Ring for travel, because they're both compact 2 toys in 1, and waterproof to boot! Each toy has a removable vibe, so you have more options for fun.
Waterproof sex toys are always a good choice for holiday travel. Even if you can't find any other time to be alone, you can always have a little "me time" in the shower. The sound of running water can even really help to mask the sound of a vibrator.
5. Choose quiet toys.
If you are staying in close quarters with friends or family, sound might be an issue. You can muffle it a little, by wrapping a tube of paper around the batteries in your toy, but it's better to pick a quiet one to start.
6. Don't forget to pack your lotions and lubricants.
Place liquids in clear, zip-lick plastic bags for travel. If you are concerned about discretion, it's easy to remove the labels ahead of time. Just be sure to keep any liquids in your carry-on under 3.4 oz, and remember they all need to fit into a single quart-sized zip-lock bag.
7. Try to pack water-based liquids whenever possible.
If you are concerned about containers opening up inside your luggage, and spoiling your clothes, stick with water-based products instead of oils. Even if a product does expand or leak, water-based items will get your clothes wet, but will not stain them.
Water-based lubricants are easy to find, but you also have the more travel-friendly option of a water-based massage gelle (like Namiko) for travel, or a solid Soy Massage Candle, instead of a traditional oil.
There's no reason to forgo romance, passion, or pleasure just because you are traveling for the holidays. A little preparation and forethought can ensure you and your partner get to do more than just kiss under the mistletoe!
