Tightening Creams - What's in that stuff, anyway?

We're all more label conscious these days, and one thing we get frequent questions about is tightening cream. After all, you're putting this cream in a very sensitive area!

So, we did a little research and broke it down for you. Below is a list of the ingredients in each of the three tightening creams Scarlet Girl carries, and it's intended function in the recipe.

1. Like a Virgin Cream, Shrink Cream

Annuus seed oil - Sunflower seed oil.

Menthyl lactate - Complex derived from Lactic Acid and Menthol that cools and refreshes the skin.

Capsicum annuum resin (derived from peppers) - Ingredients that slow the loss of water from the skin by forming a barrier on the skin's surface. Ingredients that enhance the appearance of dry or damaged skin by reducing flaking and restoring suppleness.

Daucus carota sativa oil - Carrot oil

Retinyl palmitate - vitamin A; After its absorption into the skin, retinyl palmitate is converted to retinol, and ultimately to retinoic acid (the active form of vitamin A present in Retin-A).

Tocopheryl acetate - Vitamin E.

Prunus amygdalus dulcis oil - Almond oil; smoothes, softens, and protects skin and hair.

Triethanolamine - Used as a pH balancer in cosmetic preparations in a variety of different products - ranging from skin lotion, eye gels, moisturizers, shampoos, shaving foams etc.

Propylene glycol - Propylene glycol is used:
* As a moisturizer in medicines, cosmetics, food, toothpaste, mouth wash, and tobacco products.
* As a personal lubricant.

Methylparaben - An anti-fungal that is widely used as a preservative for food, drugs, and cosmetics

Propylparaben - a preservative typically found in many water-based cosmetics, such as creams, lotions, shampoos and bath products.

This is our preferred cream, because it contains the most body-friendly ingredients. The active ingredients are intended to create a temporary, very localized, swelling of the vaginal tissue when the cream is applied. This causes a tightening sensation, and for many women, more sensitivity.

Crazy Girl - "So Tight" Shrink Cream

Water - You know this one

Glycerin - A colorless, odorless, viscous liquid that is widely used in pharmaceutical formulations. Glycerol is a sugar alcohol, and is sweet-tasting and of low toxicity.

Sorbitol - Sweetener, a sugar substitute

Flavor

Hydroxyethylcellulose - Emulsifier, thickener, also used to lubricate dry eyes.

Menthol - Derived from peppermint; anti-inflammatory, promotes circulation, cools and refreshes (some people may be sensitive to menthol and / or experience it as a burning sensation.

Smilax Utilis Root Extract - Derived from sarsaparilla, used as a
flavoring agent, can also be used in other forms for an anti-inflammatory and cleansing agent (interestingly enough it was often used to treaty syphilis about 2-3 centuries ago).

Zingiber Officinale (ginger) Root Extract - Flavor

Capsicum Frutescens Fruit Extract (derived from peppers) -
Ingredients that slow the loss of water from the skin by forming a barrier on the skin's surface. Ingredients that enhance the appearance of dry or damaged skin by reducing flaking and restoring suppleness.

Hydrogenated Castor Oil - A vegetable oil obtained from the castor bean used in food additives, flavorings, candy (i.e., chocolate), as a mold inhibitor, and in packaging.

Acrylates/C-10-30 Alkyl Acrylate Crosspolymer - Emulsifier and stabilizer.

Sorbic Acid - A natural organic compound used as a food preservative.

Methylparaben - An anti-fungal that is widely used as a preservative for food, drugs, and cosmetics.

Ethylparaben - Used as a preservative.

Disodium EDTA - Use to allow other ingredients to penetrate skin more easily, also used in anti chelation therapies medically.

Triethanolamine - Used as a pH balancer in cosmetic preparations in a variety of different products - ranging from skin lotion, eye gels, moisturizers, shampoos, shaving foams etc.

Sodium Saccharin - The oldest artificial sweetener. The basic substance, benzoic sulfinide, has effectively no food energy and is about 300 times as sweet as sucrose. used to sweeten products such as drinks, candies, medicines, and toothpaste.

Red 4 and Blue 1 - Coloring.

-------------------------

Tighten Up Shrink Cream

Benzocaine (Ethyl p-Aminobenzoate U.S.P) - A local anesthetic commonly
used as a topical pain reliever; when used vaginally can limit lubrication, causing a tighter sensation.

Triclosan - Wide spectrum antibacterial and anti-fungal agent.

Perfecta Petrolium U.S.P. - Base.
