V-day, My Way!
by Lola LeBlanc
All the single ladies... all the single ladies!
If you're single, like me, you know the song. And if you have your hand flying in the air with that Beyonce fierceness, then here are some suggestions for the day that screams couples!
Grab your best dress and sexiest pair of high heels, and go out! Why wouldn't you? Have a girls night with the girlfriends you love, celebrating your friendship. Grab a drink, have dinner, or go to a club! And if you are feeling just a little blue on this day, friends can sympathize and make a sad night into a fun one.
2. Give back!
If your heart is not fulfilled by that special someone, fill it up by volunteering. Lots of organizations have Valentine's Day parties or gift exchanges. You could sign up to work at an event or donate candy. Senior centers, church, temple, animal shelters, fundraisers; lots of places will welcome your help with open arms.
I'm going to a fundraiser for a city hospital, raising funds to continue serving those less fortunate. It's an evening event, so I get to dress up and take advantage of a open bar with (hopefully) single doctors.
3. Do something nice for someone!
Have a widowed coworker, a friend who just got out of a relationship, younger nieces and nephews, or cousins? Pick up a card, grab some flowers, or bake cookies to share at office or with your friends. You might be quite surprised at just how excited even adults can get about those kiddy Valentine's day cards!
All of the above can be enhanced by:
1) A spa day at home (or the day spa) pampering yourself to look and feel your best on Valentine's Day.
Looking your best, for yourself, is just as good a reason to primp as any. Believe that!
2) Self-love with a new toy (or an old favorite) to create that nice glow before you go out on the town. It's a loving gift for loving yourself!
So, Scarlet Girls, put down the rom-com and extra buttery popcorn (that you only were going to have a "little" of) and get out there! Make your Valentine's day a single lady memory with friends, or with something you do just for (and with) yourself.
And hey, you just might meet the right person on your Valentine adventure. Just remember, you must first love yourself fully in order to be loved; so be your own first great love. Happy Valentine's Day!
